Educate Out Prejudice

Overview

Can LGBT be embedded into entry level ESOLdefinition courses? A teacher might steer clear of this equality strand, or have concerns that student’s language levels or cultural backgrounds would make the lesson controversial and divisive. We found that by embedding LGBT into the curriculum and taking a cross college approach to awareness-raising worked best. Find out how!

The project hoped to provide the correct conditions to foster environments where learners and staff feel comfortable about sexual orientation and gender identities, including disclosure.

Additionally we wanted to investigate any unique challenges to be overcome within an adult context, enabling staff to have confidence and the resources to challenge prejudice, discrimination and promote the Equalitydefinition agenda amongst people from diverse cultures.
