In August 2014, ECU won the tender to manage the Skills Funding Agency's 2014/15 Equalitydefinition and Diversity Good Practice Fund (GPF). The focus of the SFA/ECU GPF was embedding, sustaining and spreading good practice.

ECU awarded 29 grants of up to £30,000 to projects developed by FACESdefinition providers across England to support projects that embed, sustain and spread good practice that helps learners to participate and achieve in FEdefinition, and develop the capacity of the sector to meet the public sector equality duty. For details of how ECU selected projects and managed the fund please refer to the ECU website at: http://www.ecu.ac.uk/goodpracticefund/ and the ECU's initial and final reports attached below.

Selected projects responded to key issues within the sector, and addressed the need to embed, sustain and spread good practice.

Embed

Projects demonstrated strong partnership working and set up mechanisms for good practice to be integrated into the current curriculum (for example, making changes to assessing apprenticeships within an existing quali cation model) and operational structures, such as contractual agreements with providers.

Sustain

Projects demonstrated this through adopting an institution-wide approach to culture change, long-term action plans, strategic commitment at an institutional level through senior management involvement and match-funding, and mechanisms for continual appraisal of practices that are working.

Spread

Projects adopted a number of ways of ensuring that the work undertaken is shared extensively within their organisation, within the local community and the wider sector. This includes the use of virtual support networks, social media and updating existing national resources.

A summary of the projects and the resources they produced are also available at http://bit.ly/ECU_GPF_sum
