Embedding LGBT into the Curriculum: What, why and how?

 

What?

  • We worked with a group of tutors to develop and pilot teaching resources which embed LGBT at a range of levels

  • With a focus in the ESOLdefinition curriculum and transferability tested in Essential Skills and Humanities

Why?

  • To support and encourage tutors to embed an equality strand that is often neglected, particularly at entry levels

  • To challenge assumptions that LGBT is “too difficult” for some “communities of learners”

  • To support the development of resources for the sector

How?

  • Tutors volunteered to be part of the project and were paid a small fee for development of resources

  • 1-2-1 support and staff development was provided

  • All resources were quality assured
