LGBT Data Collection - What We Learnt
- Generally staff don’t understand why we collect data and what it’s used for
- We need to make it clear to students and staff why we ask so many questions
- There is no uniformity across the sector on collecting LGBT data as it is not a requirement of the ILR (Individual Learner Record)
Free text response’s from a short survey completed by other providers:
“I am surprised by how much is completed and by how little fuss has been made. We have had pressure from the E&D team for 3 years to add this to the enrolment form so this year we did”
“Although have been under pressure have refused to collect this information”
“Not really - main issue was with staff unwilling to ask the questions when taking telephone enrolments”
“We have collected this info for a number of years now and it has become the norm”
“We don't collect this info but Quality staff (past and present) are keen to. Other staff - including MIS (Management Information Systems department at Morley College) - are uncomfortable about asking for (and processing) such sensitive, personal data”
